Whereabouts is Rummelsburg?

Rummelsburg is part of the Berlin district of Lichtenberg and is located east of the centre of the capital. By public transport, you can reach Berlin Central Station in just under 20 minutes. The Berlin Ostkreuz train station is also just one S-Bahn station away. The location is characterized by its green spaces and the proximity to the water. There are idyllic walks along the shore in the south of Rummelsburg, where the district borders the Spree and Rummelsburger Bucht. In addition, there are numerous green areas around Nöldnerplatz that offer space to relax.

A brief history and architecture of the area

In 1669, a brick factory was built in Rummelsburg, the first building of the area. Even today, industrial buildings tend to dominate the cityscape in the southeast of the city. However, in the other parts of Rummelsburg, there is a colourful mix of listed Wilhelminian-style buildings and modern new buildings. There are many high-end properties on the banks of the Rummelsburger See. In addition to luxury apartments, there are also terraced houses, residential estates, new multi-storey buildings and studio buildings. The so-called Sonnenhof in the east of the district catches the eye as a dominant-looking block development. The many green spaces and leisure and relaxation oases in the courtyards of the Karrees in the centre of the district make Rummelsburg particularly child-friendly.

The area around Rummelsburger Bucht has a variety of leisure activities and beautiful architecture.

Popular sights and attractions

There is a lot of street art in the district, which adds to the beauty of the streetscape. Rummelsburg is also known for the Klingenberg electricity and thermal power station, which still provides a large part of Berlin's energy supply. In the residential area of Victoriastadt, you can explore the Lichtenberg Museum and the area's landmarks. The shotgun tower is located on Nöldnerstraße and can be visited as part of the Open Monument Day and the Long Night of the Museums.

Shopping in Rummelsburg

You will find everything you need for everyday needs in the area. You can shop at will in various shopping centres, but if you still can't find what you are looking for, you can quickly get to the centre of the city thanks to public transport. The largest shopping centre is the Victoria Centre, which offers fresh food as well as restaurants and beauty salons. Marktschwärmer is regularly available on Lückstrasse, where you can buy regional and fresh products. If you want to eat out in Rummelsburg, you can choose from a variety of restaurants. When the weather is nice, the harbour kitchen with a view of the Spree is a popular destination.
