Rummelsburg, Berlin: Alternative living in Lichtenberg
Reasons to live in Rummelsburg
Rummelsburg is a district rich in listed buildings whose stucco facades adorn the streets. As a neighbourhood in the Lichtenberg district, Rummelsburg is located east of Berlin city centre and is connected to the surrounding neighbourhoods by regional trains, S-Bahns, and buses. The cityscape of Rummelsburg varies depending on the neighbourhood. The Weitlingkiez, as a Wilhelminian style old building area, is particularly popular with families with its quiet residential streets, schools and sports facilities. In the Kaskelkiez, also known as Victoriastadt, you can still find houses with workshops and coach houses in the backyards, which are filled with charm. The luxury apartments and terraced houses in the Wasserstadt Rummelsburg, just by the banks of the Rummelsburger See, are elegant and very appealing. Plenty of green spaces, the closeness to the waters of the Spree and the Rummelsburger See, in addition to excellent infrastructure, make Rummelsburg a popular place to live.

A brief history and architecture of the area
In 1669, a brick factory was built in Rummelsburg, the first building of the area. Even today, industrial buildings tend to dominate the cityscape in the southeast of the city. However, in the other parts of Rummelsburg, there is a colourful mix of listed Wilhelminian-style buildings and modern new buildings. There are many high-end properties on the banks of the Rummelsburger See. In addition to luxury apartments, there are also terraced houses, residential estates, new multi-storey buildings and studio buildings. The so-called Sonnenhof in the east of the district catches the eye as a dominant-looking block development. The many green spaces and leisure and relaxation oases in the courtyards of the Karrees in the centre of the district make Rummelsburg particularly child-friendly.
